The old (ancient) history of Kho Kho is deeply rooted in Indian culture and tradition, going back thousands of years, long before it was codified into a modern sport. Here’s a look at the early, traditional history of Kho Kho.
Kho Kho is believed to have originated in prehistoric India, where it was played as a training activity for physical fitness, stamina, and strategy—often by warriors and hunters.
Its roots may come from a traditional game called “Rathera”, where chariots (raths) were used instead of players running on foot. Over time, this evolved into a running game, especially when chariots became obsolete.
"Kho Kho is not just a game, it’s a culture of speed, strategy, and spirit."
Kerala Kho Kho Games is a dedicated initiative to promote and develop the traditional Indian sport of Kho Kho across the state of Kerala. Our mission is to provide a structured platform for budding athletes to train, compete, and excel in Kho Kho.
Through organized tournaments, coaching programs, and awareness drives, we aim to bring this exciting and energetic game into the limelight. Our efforts are focused on nurturing talent from grassroots to national levels while instilling sportsmanship, discipline, and team spirit in every player.
